Leiden

Je suis allée à Leiden en mars afin de passer un entretien d’embauche. Avant et après ce dernier j’ai pris le temps de visiter la ville. Cela vaut le coup.

 Leiden compte 120 000 habitants, mais la ville forme une zone urbaine plus dense avec les banlieues Oegstgeest, Leiderdorp, Voorschoten, Valkenburg, Rijnsburg et Katwijk, qui comptent environ 342 000 habitants. L’agglomeration la plus importante de Leiden compte  332 000 habitants qui font de Leiden la 6^ème plus grande agglomération des Pays-Bas. Leiden est situé à 40km nord d’Amsterdam.

 Le festival le plus populaire est célébré le 3 octobre est est tout simplement appelé «  3 Oktober ». Les gens de Leiden célèbrent la fin du siège espagnole de 1574. Cela se déroule sur 2 à3 jours ( en général 2 ou 3 s’il y a un dimanche), incluant des défilés, des stands, reconstitutions historiques et autres activités.

Leiden a aussi des fonctions importantes pour le shopping. Il est vrai qu’il a beaucoup de commerces. C’est une ville dynamique et jeune (notamment dû à l’université de Leiden)

 Puis, à cause du déclin économique du 17^ème siècle au début du 20^ème, la plus part des bâtiments du 16^ème et 17^ème sont toujours intacts. Des centaines de bâtiments dans le centre sont ornées avec de grandes peintures murales avec des poésies. C’est à voir !

 I went to Leiden in March in order to have a job interview. Before and after this later I took time to visit the city. It is worth it.

 Leiden has a population of about 120,000, but the city forms one densely connected urban area with its suburbs Oegstgeest, Leiderdorp, Voorschoten, Valkenburg, Rijnsburg and Katwijk, which have about 254,000 inhabitants combined. The larger Leiden agglomeration counts 332,000 inhabitants which makes it the sixth major agglomeration in the Netherlands. Leiden is located at 40 kilometers from Amsterdam to its north.

The city's biggest and most popular annual festival is celebrated at the 3rd of October and is called simply "3 Oktober". The people of Leiden celebrate the end of the Spanish siege of 1574. It typically takes place over the course of two to three days (usually two but three if there's a Sunday involved) and includes parades, a hutspot feast, historical reenactments, a funfair and other events.

Leiden has important functions as a shopping and trade center for communities around the city. You can shop as you want. It is a very dynamic and young city. (especially because of the Leiden University).

 Because of the economic decline from the 17th to the early 20th century, much of the 16th- and 17th-century town centre is still intact. Hundred buildings in the centre are decorated with large murals of poetry. A must see!
